About Us

OUR HISTORY:

  • Founded in 1975 at the Barnard Castle Working Mens Club.
  • Originally it was a drinking club - named The Clique by the Club Steward.
  • The Charity started from 2p left-over after a game of Dominoes!
  • The Clique originally had 10 members.
  • In it's first year The Clique raised £1000 and up to date over £100,000 has been raised for local good causes.
  • It moved to the Beaconsfield in 1979 with the help of Dave Brenkely.
  • It then moved to the Cricketers Arms in 1998, and membership grew to 15.
  • The charity is currently operates out of The Swan, and has 20 members.
  • Chuck Hughes is the only remaining founding member.
  • Elizabeth a 16 year old from Ghana, has been sponsored by the charity since the age of 6.
  • The Clique owns several mobility scooters which are loaned out to local people.
